WHY BUY IT?

Crispy and evenly browned foods+Easy to clean+Convenient presets

WHY NOT?

-bulky-The reheat function does not replace the microwave

The brand behind the iconic Instant Pot also designs air fryers, and its top model has consistently produced the crispiest fries and chicken wings. These two foods are golden and crunchy on the outside, but soft on the inside. The flavor of the food is also revealed to be perfectly preserved.

The Instant Vortex Plus adopts a square shape, with a frying basket and a removable vegetable drawer, which is dishwasher safe for easy cleaning. It draws inspiration from the Instant Vortex (see below), which can fry, roast, bake and reheat, with broil and dehydrate functions too – although we found the reheat function struggled to replace the of a conventional microwave.

It’s a bulky device that takes up a lot of space on your countertop and is at the high end of the market, but its performance definitely justifies the high cost.

2. Ninja Foodi Dual Zone

TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS

Type: Double Basket FryerCapacity: 7.6 litersCooking Modes: Air Fry, Roast, Bake and Reheat

WHY BUY IT

+Versatile cooking+Big capacity

WHY NOT?

-Takes up a lot of space-Again, reheating dishes is not his forte.

It is the only hot air fryer, tested by us, which has two separate compartments. Which allows you to cook two different dishes so they are ready to be served at the same time. During the test, we were impressed with how quickly the fryer crisped and evenly browned our fries thanks to its “synchro” mode.

The two cooking wells, fitted with holding plates, have a total capacity of 7.6 liters and are deep enough to each hold a 500g batch of chips or 1kg of chicken wings. This appliance can roast, dehydrate, bake and even reheat, as well as air fry, although like most air fryers, the reheat function cannot replace a microwave.

It’s one of the bulkiest fryers we’ve tested and takes up a lot of space on a countertop, but still looks stylish, with a glossy black finish and silver accents.

3. Philips XXL HD9650/99

TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS

Style: Basket FryerCapacity: 7 litersCooking Modes: Air Fry, Roast, Bake and Reheat

WHY BUY IT

+Foods fried or roasted to perfection+Eliminates fat+Generous quantities

WHY NOT?

-Impressive on a worktop-Uses more oil than competitors

If you are looking for a fryer that can feed several mouths, the Philips Airfryer XXL HD9650/99 is the ideal choice thanks to its large capacity of 7 liters.

In our tests, we found that the air fryer gave a satisfying crispy texture to all foods, including frozen fries. It also has an extra insert, which sits between the frying basket and the fryer drawer, and which, according to Philips, separates and traps the fat secreted during cooking – so you don’t ingest it. . Fortunately, because the deep fryer uses more oil than most other appliances: the included recipe booklet recommends using 1 tablespoon of oil per 500g of potatoes when making homemade fries, and the same amount for six chicken wings.

This is a bulky machine, so if you’re short on space in your kitchen, you may need to store it in a cupboard.

4. Ninja Air Fryer Max

TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS

Type: Basket FryerCapacity: 5.2 litersCooking modes: Fry, roast, bake, reheat and dehydrate.TODAY’S

WHY BUY IT

+Crispy and evenly browned results+Excellent for cooking frozen foods+Silent use

WHY NOT?

-No reminder to shake or turn food-No preheat setting-The reheat function cannot replace the microwave.

With a dedicated frozen food mode called Max Crisp and plenty of cooking charts offering time tips, this is the best air fryers on the market today for cooking frozen food.

The Ninja Air Fryer Max also gave us crispy, evenly browned homemade fries and chicken wings.

However, this compact, circular-shaped fryer lacks the booster feature, a feature that many other fryers offer that helps ensure hot air reaches every inch of the food. It also does not have an automatic preheat function and the reheat mode cannot replace a microwave. But for those who mainly cook frozen food, this is the ideal fryer.

There is also a smaller version, with a capacity of 3.8 liters, called Ninja Air Fryer.

5. Instant Vortex

TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS

Type: Basket FryerCapacity: 5.7 litersCooking Modes: Air Fry, Roast, Bake and Reheat

WHY BUY IT

+Ease of use+Many useful presets

WHY NOT?

-Difficult to store-Fewer cooking modes than some fryers

Incredibly easy to use, the Instant Vortex produced the same crispy, evenly browned fries and succulent chicken as the top-of-the-line Vortex Plus model featured earlier in this ranking.

The standard Vortex can fry, roast, bake, and reheat, but there’s no broil or dehydrate option. However, we found that some of the additional cooking methods were not as effective as the fryer setting. For example, the baked cinnamon rolls were way too crispy after the allotted time.

The device has the same capacity as the Instant Vortex Plus, i.e. 1.8 kg of chicken or 1 kg of fries. So it sports the same footprint, which means you’ll have to compromise to keep it on your countertop. Or find a suitable place in your cupboards.
